Chapter 360 I Had My Reasons
âDid you silently acknowledge it?â Mr. Tannerâs voice grew colder. âBeckham has really spoiled you!â
Gwenn looked up, tears pouring down her cheeks. âGrandpa⊠I⊠I had my reasons.â
âReasons?â
âYou intentionally misled others into believing your deceptive behavior. What were your reasons?â
The old man glared at Gwenn icily, his sharp voice devoid of affection.
Unable to tolerate it any longer, Beckham immediately asked, âDad, what is going on?â
Mr. Tannerâs expression calmed down at this point.
He snorted coldly. âWhen Cherise visited me yesterday, I told her to come to your birthday banquet tonight. However, she said she couldnât because she didnât have an invitation.â
Gwennâs eyes widened in response.
Gwenn had a*sumed that Cherise wouldnât consider needing an invitation because she was a girl from the countryside.
Gwenn never imagined that Cherise was aware the day before that she couldnât enter without an invitation!
Mr. Tanner sighed indifferently. âI didnât think much of it. I told her she could enter as she wished, even without an invitation.â
âGuess what this girl said?â
âThis girl said that rules exist for a reason, and she couldnât enter without an invitation. card. She said she couldnât go against the Tanner familyâs rules.â
âSince this girl is so stubborn and particular, I found an empty card on the spot and wrote out an invitation for her. I told her she had to attend the banquet tonight.â
As Mr. Tanner spoke, Beckham furrowed his brows. He looked up at Cherise, and a hint of approval flashed in his eyes.
âItâs a shame that your darling daughter Gwenn and Ms. Miles thought my handwritten invitation was forged and insisted on chasing Cherise out.â

Mr. Tanner shook his head in exasperation. âTell me. Isnât it humiliating if someone I invited with a handwritten invitation was chased out?â
Since Mr. Tanner had said so, everyone present would be foolish not to understand.
Beckham furrowed his brows and looked down at Gwenn, who was kneeling on the floor. âIs that true, Gwenn?â
âYesâŠâ
A crowd surrounded them. Gwenn knew that lying was useless, so she could only admit. defeat and nod. âItâs my mistakeâŠâ
âSmackâ
Beckham slapped her. âYour grandfather taught you to read and write when you were young. You said you didnât recognize your grandfatherâs handwriting and claimed to have never heard his name just to take revenge on a Tanner family guest?!â
He was forceful. Gwennâs face immediately swelled from the slap.
âMr. Beckham, you donât have to be so angry.â
After observing the scene from the side for a while, Damien finally walked over slowly and embraced Cherise. âMy wife has no intention of blaming Ms. Tanner.â
âShe just hopes that the Tanner family can discipline Ms. Tanner more in the future.â
âMy wife is just a girl from the countryside. She isnât much of a threat to Ms. Tanner and Ms. Miles. Neither of you needs to scheme against her.â
As he said this, the crowd started their vigorous discussions once again.
They recalled how Gwenn and Kareen kept calling Cherise a crude country bumpkin.
When they thought about itâŠ
If Mrs. Lenoir is really the rude hillbilly they had made her out to be, why is she more thoughtful
than them?
Did the two young ladies who claim to be intelligent deliberately make things difficult for a girl from the countryside?
As the surrounding discussions grew louder, they made nastier remarks.
